The Bristol, Rhode Island builder NorthCoast is a family-run company that has a big reputation for their sea-kindly center console and pilot house designs that are offshore-capable and prized among sportfishermen.
Their new 415HT is a dual-purpose boat that will be a capable sportfisherman and a couple’s fast cruising boat. With NorthCoast’s familiar Downeast styling and an enclosed salon, this design compliments the existing line but with a difference.
The 415HT has the builder’s deep V hull design with a whopping 24 degrees of dead rise at the transom. This deep V-shape provides a soft ride in chop and a smooth run through larger waves. The 415HT has a slightly round shape at the bottom of the V the length of the keel, which helps the boat climb over the hump to planing mode more easily.
The hull can carry four Yamaha 300 outboards for a total of 1,200 horsepower. This translates into a top speed of 57.6 miles-per-hour. That’s enough to get you out to Marlin country in good time or move you and your spouse two hundred miles down the coast in an afternoon.
At a cruising speed of 36 mph, the rig will burn 46 gallons an hour at 0.81 miles to the gallon, which is respectable for a fast sportfisherman. It’s notable that at 36 mph the 415HT is running at its most efficient rpms.
In cruise mode, the new boat is set up for living aboard and hanging on a hook in special coves and harbors. The windlass and bowsprit/anchor roller are standard. The galley has a two-burner stove, microwave, fridge and sinks. The dinette will seat four adults and has a full 360-degree view.
There is a centerline double berth forward plus a full head with a separate show. A single berth is tucked in under the port side deck.
It’s great to see a family builder continue to develop his line of boats while staying true to the design elements –those deep-V hulls and DownEast looks—on which he built his reputation and his company. If you’re looking for a sportfishing boat you can cruise or an express cruiser that you can fish from, the new NorthCoast 415HT does both jobs well. Read more here.
