It should be no surprise that Poland has become a leading yacht builder. It was at the Gdansk Shipyard in 1980 that shipbuilder Lech Walesa founded the Solidarity Union, which led the way a decade later to independence from the dying Soviet Union.

Today, more than a dozen Polish yacht yards build hundreds of new boats ever year, many for brands based in Scandinavia and Europe. But one of it home-grown brands, Cobra Yachts, has an expanding reputation for delivering interesting family cruising boats from 37 to 48 feet, that combine modern Italian-yacht design with the great value to be found by building in the country.

This month, Cobra, which has been building yachts for 20 years, will introduce their new Campione 41 at BOOT Dusseldorf. It is an angular, broad beamed flybridge cruiser with accommodation for a family of four. The hull design is similar to the whole new crop of mid-size cruisers that have been launched in the last few years.

Its high plumb bow and very full sections forward will make the 41 dry in a seaway and also provides extra buoyancy and interior volume. Aft, the cockpit is large for a boat of this size and extends aft of the actual hull to create a waterfront terrace where folding chairs or outdoor furniture can be set up.

The flybridge is open and comes without a hard top. A folding Bimini will keep the sun off the crew.. On  the cabin top there is a wide sunning bed while aft you’ll find an L-shaped lounge with a wet bar and fridge.

It interior design features a sliding glass door for the salon that effectively makes the salon and cockpit one large living space. The galley is aft and the dinette amidships will seat four. The ambience is a combination of Italian styling and Polish practicality.

With its fuel efficient power plant, homey accommodation and low air draft, the new Campione 41 would be an excellent choice for cruising around the Great Loop. The brand is represented in the US by Euromarine International with offices in Boston, Massachusetts and Lake Mary, Florida.
