At the Ft. Lauderdale boat show I had the chance to climb aboard the Sialia 59 Weekender which is now the company’s flagship. The boat is nothing short of jaw dropping for several reasons.
First it is drop-dead beautiful in a modern, muscular way much like a Porsche 911. It doesn’t have any odd or gratuitous angles or strangely shaped hull glazing. Its look is sleek, purposeful and the curved front windshield and cockpit cover give it the look that it is already speeding past you.
Second, the boat is all electric and the system is the product of a highly accomplished mechanical engineer who is the developer of the world’s best and longest lasting battery technologies used in commercial buses and delivery vehicle. No fuel, no engine noise and no fumes. Just silence.
Third, the hull is hydrodynamically sophisticated and hyper efficient and is the creation of an experienced aeronautical engineer. The sharp V forward and the flat sections aft, joined by a two-step or chined configuration, means the boat will be easily driven and will ascend onto a plane quickly.
Fourth, the boat is narrow and light for its size, so again it is easily driven and will take a minimum amount of energy to get on a plane. The 59 Weekender will go 45 knots and will have a working range at cruising speeds of up to 60 miles.
There’s nothing else like it on the planet.
So, now Sialia is introducing their new design for a 45 Sport and its sistership the 45 Weekender. This mini-version of the 59 has an even more modern look and has softened some of the aggressive lines of the bigger boat.
The new 45 will be an ultimate day-boat for jetting out to a favorite beach or anchorage with a boat load of frinds and then jetting home again, all without a zero carbon footprint, no noise and no exhaust.
The builders expect the 45 to have a top end of 43 knots and a cruising range of more than 60 miles. A truly remarkable achievement.
Sialia is one of the most remarkable new lines of electric boats and their style and technology are already making waves across the boating market.
