The New Saxdor 40 GTC was introduced to the North American market last fall and is the Finnish builder’s flagdship. A two-cabin, outboard express cruiser, the new boat packs a lot of amenities inside a relatively small envelope.
The Saxdor company was founded by Sakari Matilla, a prolific boat-building entrepreneur, who also founded Axopar, Aquador Paragon and XO Boats. While based in Finland, Saxdor builds most of their boat at their factory in Poland, a country that has become a boat building mecca.
As of 2024, the company had grown to 600 employees. It has over 100 dealers in 50 countries around the world and now has eight models from 20 to 40 feet with a 460 in the works.
With a two-step, deep V hull at 21 degrees of. deadrise, the new 40 GTC provides an incredibly stable platform that rises onto a plane quickly and easily. Saxdor uses only Mercury outboards and the 40 GTC can come with either twin 350s or 400s. Top speeds range from 35 to 45 knots and the boat will have a comfortable cruising speed at 25 knots or so.
The new boat, like all Saxdors, has a large forward lounge in the bow with a cocktail table. This will be a popular social area, particularly for the younger generation. Access from the salon is via a door in the port side of the salon.
The GTC, unlike her sister the GTO, has glazing around the salon so it is weather-tight and can be either heated or cooled as needed. The side bulkheads in the salon fold down to create open porches on both sides for sunning and swimming.
Aft there is a large sunning platform that creates enough interior space for a double cabin that has its own companionway. The master cabin is forward in the bow and the head is right next to the forward companionway.
At 40 feet, the 40GTC is large enough and roomy enough for extended cruising and will be comfortable for a family of four or two couples. The starting price is around $430,000 which no doubt will creep up as electronics and other options are added.
