De Antonio Yachts, based in Barcelona, Spain recently launched its new 60-foot flagship, which they intend to debut at the Cannes Festival of Yachting in September. As an outboard powered family cruiser, it will be interesting to see how well the now-recognized De Antiono design aesthetic works in a boat of this size.
The boat has the builder’s signature stepped hull, slab sides with stylish glazing and a plumb bow, all very much family resemblances. The salon is based around the full side decks for easy access to the lounge at the bow, while the cockpit features a near full-width table that will seat 10 and a vast sun bed that hides to the four Mercury Verado 600-horsepoer engines. A huge swim platform completes the picture.
The 60’s performance is anticipated to be stunning. The 2400 total horsepower will deliver a top end speed of 46 knots while the designers say a cruising speed of 33 knots will give the best overall combination of fuel efficiency and speed. Buried under the sun bed and well aft, engine noise from the Verados should be minimal.
It is worth noting that the stepped hull design rises onto a plane easily and makes the hull remain flat fore and aft at speed instead of riding bow up as most semi-displacement planning hulls do. This makes for a softer ride and improves the helm’s visibility forward.
The coupe styling makes two sunroofs over the salon possible which will enhance the indoor-outdoor ambience already in play due to the huge salon windows. With a beam of 17-feet, the saloon is large and has a folding table that will seat six or more. All the windows can be opened and the glass doors slide away to make the cockpit and salon one large social area.
Below there are accommodations for six in the great cabin amidships and two twin cabins forward. There are even two more berths for crew or guests in the fore peak.
The new D60 is really a fast runabout on steroids and transformed into a family cruiser. This concept was tried and proven in the D50 so we believe the 60 will be just as popular. Outboard power, wide open sunning areas, huge windows and spirited speeds are all elements in a modern formula for success.
