Yesterday, August 14, Hinckley Yachts based in Portsmouth, Rhode Island held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newest addition to the company’s expanding storage and service businesses  The building that was the focus of the event is a brand new 24,000 square foot steel structure that was designed and built to withstand the winds and floods of a hundred-year storm.

Hinckley’s CEO Gavin McClintock addressed the crowd with a vision for the company’s future. “After almost 100 years in business, the Hinckley company is investing heavily in the future, and this new structure is a significant part of where we are headed for the next hundred years.”

The new structure follows the building of a similar inside storage and service buildings at the Hinckley yards in Stuart and Ft, Meyers, Florida. These are also rated as secure in a Category 5 hurricane with winds over 135 mile per hour.

Gavin McClintock placed emphasis on the quest for quality across the company. “Our aim is to create company infastructure and facilities and an overall business culture that matches the quality of our boats. This will help attract the finest marine service professionals and retain our valued customers who come to us for excellence in all aspects of their boating lives.”

The new building represents a significant investment in the Portsmouth campus and is part of an overall upgrade of the yard facilities in the last year.

In attendance was Rhode Island Speaker of the House Joe Schekarchi. In his brief remarks, he praised Hinckley for the investment in Rhode Island. “You are proving once again that the marine industry and the high-paying jobs it creates is a vital part of the Rhode Island economy. Thank you for your commitment, for this new building and for the investment in the state’s future.”

This year has seen Gavin McClintock and his new management team lead the company in rapid expansion, not only in Rhode Island but also in the Chesapeake Bay. In February they announced the acquisition of the Bay Bridge Marina in Stevensville and in June they completed the purchase of the Campbell’s Boatyard at Bachelor’s Point in Oxford, Maryland.

After the ceremony, Marketing Director Scott Bryant told me, “With buildings like this and the new facilities we’ve taken on this year, we are positioning Hinckley’s service and storage as the best in the business.”
