Tiara’s new 36-knot, bright and open 49 Coupe will be on display at the Palm Beach show, starting March 26. The 49 Coupe features a salon filled with light from windows all around (and the large sunroof, when it’s open), and two staterooms with two heads below.
Power comes from twin 600-hp Volvo IPS800 pod drives; they deliver a top speed of 36.1 knots and an optimal cruising speed of 26.2 knots with a range of 219 nm. Volvo is a long-time partner with Tiara (I tested the very first IPS on a Tiara in the Great Lakes more than 15 years ago), and the 49 Coupe has Volvo’s glass helm and fingertip joystick control.
The result is that the Tiara 49 Coupe will be easy to drive and enjoy. It’s meant to be a social boat, with sliding glass doors opening the salon, with galley aft, to the cockpit. All the way aft, the wide swim platform faces the transom, with an opening containing an optional electric grill and sink under a wide Corian countertop. A trunk opens to store water toys; you can lift it up for even more room.
A passageway on the port side leads to the cockpit, with a large, comfortable L-shaped settee across the transom and then up the starboard side. It’s finished in leather-like material, and faces a varnished teak table on a removable stainless pedestal. An aft-facing seat is forward on the port side.
Inside the salon, the galley sink and cooktop and quartz countertops are on the port side, with a microwave and convection oven on the starboard side with cold storage. The double-wide helm seat forward to starboard measures a full 48 inches across. A large U-shaped settee is to port.
Down five steps, the master stateroom is full beam amidships, with an en suite head and shower. The VIP is forward, also with an en suite head and shower. Both cabins are filled with natural light from hull-side windows.
The 49 Coupe has an air draft of just 13’ 2”, from the waterline to the top of the standard radar dome, which means it can slide under most of the bridges on the Great Loop and in the Southeast.
