A 19-year-old Ipswich, Massachusetts, man was seriously injured on the Fourth of July when he fell out of his boat and it then ran over him. The three other  people on the boat, who also were thrown out, were not injured. After hitting the driver, the boat kept circling and finally crashed into his family’s boathouse.

The accident occurred near the Third Creek Mooring field off Ipswich just before 3 in the afternoon. The Ipswich police said it happened when the 19-foot boat, powered by a 90-hp Mercury outboard, “took a turn” with four people on board. They said that “After the occupants fell into the water, the boat began circling, unmanned, during which time the operator of the boat, a 19-year-old Ipswich man, was run over by the boat.”

After the boat crashed into the boathouse, a passing boater stopped and pulled the driver out of the water. An Ipswich police boat picked up the other three people and then took took all four to the Ipswich Bay Yacht Club, where first responders gave the injured man emergency medical treatment.

A medical helicopter landed near the club and flew the injured man to the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. The Ipswich police and the Massachusetts Environmental Police are investigating. Read more:
