Greenline just had the debut of its new 68 hybrid, the flagship of its Slovenian fleet, at the Fort Lauderdale show, and it announced that it’s working on a new 58 Fly, which will be its next largest yacht, for a launch next fall.
Greenline says that the 68, which can operate for as long as two days on battery power alone, is the largest production hybrid in the world. The planned 58 Fly will have all the same eco-friendly advantages as the 68, including the ability to run under diesel or solar/electric power, but in a slightly smaller package,
The 58 Fly will have the next generation of Greenline’s H-Drive system, with a pair of 25kW electric motors and a hydraulic clutch that can be connected inline to any straight-shaft engine. Its diesel power comes from either twin 610-hp or 715-hp Cummins engines, while larger 1,000-hp Cats will produce a 30-knot top speed.
Eleven solar panels on the flybridge overhead and the hardtop produce 330W to charge the 16kWh lithium service batteries. This is enough power to run all the boat’s appliances and house systems without firing up the genset. With a full battery charge, the 58 Fly will have a range of 30 nm at 6 knots.
Built for cruising, the 58 Fly has three staterooms and two heads below. All the way aft, an hydraulic swim platform lowers to the water, while the cockpit has a creative lounge seating area with a high-low table that can be converted to a daybed.
Everything is on one level from the transom to the helm station, and the galley is aft to provide easy access to the cockpit and the entertaining area there. A sun pad for three is on the foredeck; forward of that is a bench seat opposite two aft-facing seats in a separate social area.
Below, the master stateroom is amidships and it has 6’ 5” of headroom. The VIP cabin is forward, with a double berth. The guest stateroom is a bit aft to starboard with twin berths. The guest stateroom also can be built as a dedicated study or office on board. A crew cabin all the way aft can sleep two or it can be used for stowage or as a workshop.
Greenline will use a lot of carbon fiber in the new 58 to save weight; the company estimates that every ton of weight translates to losing one knot of speed. The 58 will have carbon fiber in the hardtop and superstructure and a new lightweight core in the sandwich construction. Read more:
