Naval Yachts is getting ready to launch hull number one of its 78-foot XPM 78 explorer catamaran series, designed for high-latitude cruising and comfort on board.
The new, low-profile cat, from Naval Yacht’s large yard in Antalya, Turkey, features some creative design work, including a split-level salon with 16-foot high ceilings, an internal balcony and windows all around with panoramic views.
The yacht has four cabins for guests, but Master Stateroom 1 and Master Stateroom 2 are both on the main deck, each with a queen-sized bed and sofa, and luxurious en suite heads. That deck also has an owner’s private office, a day head, and a cruising galley with a custom fridge and freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher. Two guest cabins, and one crew cabin, are below, in the cat’s hulls.
The cat has a generous 33’ 7” beam, and two fold-out bulwarks amidships provide even more space.
The all-aluminum XPM 78 is powered by twin 500-hp John Deere diesels, producing a top speed of 14 knots and a range of 1,200 nm at 10 knots. The boat also is a hybrid with two 50kW lithium batteries driving two electric motors. It has a 28-nm range at 7 knots with just the electric motors. It also has a large solar array that generates 12.5 kWh.
In announcing the boat, Naval Yachts said it has been “built to safely cross high-latitude regions and oceans,” and “is capable of meeting all the demands and needs of adventure-loving sailors.” It is scheduled to start cruising this summer.
