It’s now easier to travel to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, and to charter a boat there, since many countries have relaxed their Covid-related protocols.
The Moorings, the worldwide charter powerhouse, has put together a list of the new protocols, spelling out what you need to do to enter, and enjoy, a charter there. Here’s a sample:
BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS:
First, it’s important to note that cruising between the U.S. and British Virgin Islands is prohibited, although there is daily ferry service between the two island countries.
All travelers over the age of 5, regardless of vaccination status, will have the following entry requirements:
- Present a negative rapid antigen test or a RT-PCR taken up to 48 hours before entry.
- Alternatively, a person may present a document issued by a licensed medical professional certifying Covid-19 recovery within 90 days prior to arrival, in place of a negative test.
- If unable to present a test or recovery certificate, the person will be tested on arrival.
All Travelers:
- Any person traveling to the BVI, regardless of vaccination status, will no longer need to register for entry clearance on the BVI Gateway Travel Portal and will no longer be required to show proof of travel insurance.
- The wearing of face masks or face coverings, whether indoors or outdoors, will no longer be mandated by law, but will be allowed as a matter of choice in public spaces.
THE BAHAMAS
Fully Vaccinated Travelers:
- Fully vaccinated travelers will only be required to present proof of vaccination at check-in.
Unvaccinated Travelers:
- Unvaccinated travelers, ages 2 and older, will be required to obtain a negative Covid-19 test, either a negative RT-PCR or a Rapid Antigen Test to be presented at check-in. (No older than three days.)
- Children under the age of 2 are exempt from any testing requirements.
In addition to the above, the governments of the following countries have imposed a travel ban on travelers from, or connecting through, the Dominican Republic:
St. Martin
British Virgin Islands
Antigua
Martinique
Grenada
St. Lucia.
