Sargo Boats just launched its new 45 Explorer, the Finnish builder’s largest yet, a safe, tough, all-weather cruiser, just like its predecessors.

The new 45 features wide doors on both sides of the light-filled, modern wheelhouse for easy access to the high walkaround decks, a forward raked windshield, a large sliding sun roof, and social areas fore and aft. Sargo’s new flagship comes with either two or three cabins, sleeping four or six people, and two heads below.

Sargo offers several Volvo power options for the 45: twin 440-hp stern drives; twin 440-hp IPS600 pod drives, or twin 480-hp IPS650 pod drives. With the stern drives, the boat tops out at about 35 knots with a range of 250 nm at 25 knots, according to the company.

All Sargos are built for safe seakeeping abilities, even in variable conditions. They have Cat B-Offshore certification. The hull is resin-infused and it has a sharp entry to part the waves with flatter aft sections for comfortable cruising.

In the wheelhouse, there are three seats on the port side, and a single helm seat to starboard. A U-shaped lounge is aft to port with a table, opposite the galley to starboard. A large lounge on the bow, and an L-shaped settee on the aft deck, provide social areas for sunny days.

In the two-cabin version, a large master is forward with an en suite head and shower. The second cabin is amidships with two berths and a head and shower. In the three-cabin version, the master is a bit smaller, and the third cabin, with two berths, is just aft of the master.

I have some personal experience with a Sargo. A few years ago, Billy Black, the photographer, and I spent a few days on a Sargo 28 (then called Minor Offshore) cruising mid-coast Maine. It was a solid, comfortable pocket cruiser, even in Maine’s fog and occasionally lumpy sea conditions.

In the U.S., Skarne Marine has been the official importer for Sargo Boats since 2008.
