VisionF Black Cat Captures Solar Power

If you’re thinking about a boat that stands out from the crowd, take a look at the new all-black VisionF 80 catamaran from Turkey.

The company says on its website that “We create innovative, exciting yachts that stand out with their distinctive designs.” But the black color is more than a cry for attention or a fashion statement.

The black color is designed to attract more heat from the sun and convert it to energy, feeding the solar panels that seem to cover the boat. As is, the solar panels provide enough energy to power the black cat’s house systems. If an owner wants more, there’s space on the coach roof in front of the helm for additional panels. And the aluminum hull dissipates any excess heat into the water.

The 78-foot cat, just displayed at the fall shows in Cannes and Monaco (where it was the only black boat in evidence), is powered by twin 800-hp Volvo IPS1050 pod drives, producing a top speed of 18 knots. The company says that at 12 knots, it sips just 8 gallons of fuel per hour.

With a 31’ 3” beam, the VisionF has all the room to make a long cruise, or an evening in the harbor, comfortable for a family and friends. The Black Forest marble dining table in the salon has seating for 12. Four cabins below, including a luxurious master stateroom in the starboard hull, can sleep eight people.

You can reach a sunken lounge in the foredeck via a door integrated into the windshield next to the lower helm station. The aft deck is another large social and sunning area, with a dining table for eight guests, a sun lounge in one corner and a Sea Bob in the other. A Williams jet tender and a jet ski are stored on deck.

The company says the black cat resembles a black swan. Judge for yourself. Read more at http://visionf.com and see the video below:
