New All-Electric Eelex 8000 Gaining Popularity

The 26-foot X Shore Eelex 8000 is establishing its place as the world’s first mass-production all-electric recreational boat. Indeed, the Swedish company has built more than 40 of them in the past year, and promises to keep growing.

Powered by a 170 kW electric motor, the Eelex has almost head-snapping acceleration and a top speed of 30 knots. Dialed back, it has a range of 100 nm and then can be recharged in 70 minutes with fast charging.

X Shore, a ground-breaking company in Stockholm, says the Eelex 8000 is a blend of Scandinavian design, Swedish craftsmanship, and cutting-edge technology. The electric motor is powered by a 126 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The boat is virtually silent underway, uses no fossil fuel, and leaves no carbon footprint behind.

It has an open interior and a cork deck. Buyers can choose among ten different layouts, from fishing to diving or watersports. The mid and stern sections have integrated aluminum rails that connect to different modules; a sofa and table that can be converted to a sun bed, for example, are one popular module.

The stepped hull is extremely responsive and offers both low water resistance and maximum efficiency. The Eelex 8000 comes with a standard bow thruster.

It has hydraulic steering, with the most-used controls on the steering wheel. And it’s smart, with Garmin touchscreens using a customized X Shore interface. You can connect to the boat’s systems with the X-Shore app or a Garmin smart watch.

The console shows the nautical miles and time left on the current charge, and is updated continuously. When the display reads 0%, the battery still has a 20% charge, so you can get back home or to a charting station safely.

In keeping with its green ethic, the boat comes in three earth-inspired colors: Moss, Sandy, and Coffee.

The boat is 26’ 2” long with an 8’ 5” beam and a 2’ 6” draft. It weighs 5,730 pounds. Read more:
