The Moorings just announced that the new 403 Power Catamaran will join its charter fleet in the fall.
The new 40-footer will have three cabins for up to six guests, with two heads and three showers. There certainly will be enough room for everyone to stretch out; the cat’s beam is 21’ 8” – more than half its length. And they’ll be comfortable; the cat has standard air conditioning and a water-maker with a purifying filter system.
The Moorings 403 is built by Robertson and Caine in Cape Town, South Africa, which has launched more than 1,000 catamarans from 39 to 58 feet since it was started in 1991. Robertson and Caine also builds the Leopard Catamaran fleet. The Moorings 403 is the charter version of the Leopard 40 that’s built for private owners.
The sleek roof cap on the 403 joins seamlessly with the flybridge for a sleek, modern look. The Moorings says the flybridge is the largest in the 40-foot size range. It has an upper helm with a bench seat on the starboard side, an L-shaped settee and table a bit aft, and a bar area to port.
A lower helm is on the starboard side of the salon, next to a door that opens to the cat’s massive foredeck. An L-shaped settee is opposite the helm with a table, and an L-shaped galley, fully equipped for a week-long charter, is aft. Large windows all around let in lots of natural light,
The aft deck, protected by the overhang from the flybridge, is a large open area with a settee and table across the transom. Three steps on either side lead down to the swim platform.
The cabins and heads are below in the cat’s twin hulls. The engine compartments are aft in each hull, with access only from the outside so that they’re isolated from the boat’s living areas.
The Moorings power cat fleet now ranges from the 403 with three cabins to a 534 with four cabins.
