Hull number one of the new Nordhavn 625 series just arrived at the company’s world headquarters in Dana Point, California. It will be commissioned over the  next few weeks before being delivered to its new owners, a couple from Nevada.

The new 625 is based on a derivation of the hulls for some of Nordhavn’s most popular models, the 55, 60 and 63. All told, more 100 of these models have been sold. “It’s been a solid performer for us,” said Jeff Leishman, Nordhavn’s chief designer. “I believed doing an update would provide us with another outstanding derivative.”

The new 625 carries a fresh, modern look, in line with the sleeker approach Leishman has used in recent models. So far, that approach is working. Indeed, Nordhavn has commitments for the first eight  hulls.

The 625 was launched and sea trialed in Taiwan before it was shipped to Ensenada for the delivery to Dana Point. On the delivery north James Leishman, whose clients bought the boat, said it ran comfortably at nine knots, and he was impressed by how quiet it was underway. “She is super quiet,” he said, “on a par with the 96.”

The 625 has the same footprint as the 60, and it incorporates the customizations that owners were ordering on larger boats, including bigger windows, a massive galley, and a staircase that makes room for a walk-in shower next to the berth in the pilothouse. “The boat is really cool,” Leishman said.

For the 625, Nordhavn took some lessons from the 41 and 51 that are built with a production line approach in Turkey. This means the 625 will come with a lot of standard equipment. After all, Nordhavn knows what experienced cruisers want and need on their boats. Nordhavn’s fleet of long-range cruisers has only been growing in number and reputation since the company’s 40 footer cruised around the world in 2001 and 2002.
