Numarine just held the world debut for its new 26XP Fast, an 85-foot explorer yacht with lots of light, space, and a 31-knot turn of speed, at the Palm Beach show. The Turkish company says it’s the fastest 85-footer in its class.
The new 26XP Fast is powered by twin 1800-hp MANs and carries slightly more than 2,900 gallons of fuel, giving it a range of 1,800 nm at 8.5 knots. The four-stateroom, five-head Numarine is much more than the sum of its numbers. Walking through it at the show, I was struck by the idea that this is a yacht where everything works.
The cockpit, for example, holds about ten people. The salon was truly filled with natural light from large side windows, and sliding glass doors aft. Its sense of space is accented by headroom that extended well above my 6’ 1” height. The pilothouse is classic in its layout and far-forward location, and has a door to the starboard side deck.
The side decks themselves are wide and protected by high bulwarks, and the foredeck has two seating areas. Up top, the 700-square-foot flybridge, here protected by an extended hardtop with room for solar panels, is said to be the largest in its class. (The solar panels provide enough power to keep the boat’s systems running at night without the noise from a generator.)
I was particularly impressed by the home-like staircase that is centered at the forward end of the salon and leads down to the four staterooms below. It’s a real staircase, a straight-forward feature, but it’s easy and safe, creating a metaphor for the entire yacht.
I chatted with Omer Malaz, the company’s CEO who founded Numarine in 2001 and then sold part of it in a joint venture in 2008 so he could go cruising with his young family. Malaz has been boating his entire life and says he likes to go fast (witness the 31 knots) but really enjoys a slower cruise where he can spend time relaxing with everyone on board.
In the financial crisis of 2012, Malaz bought back the company and decided to concentrate on the explorer-style market. Numarine has sold 160 boats so far, and the line now consists of a 22XP, the 26XP, 32XP, 37XP, and the new flagship 45XP.
The first 26XP was launched as in 2018 with a full-displacement hull, a keel, a bulb on the bow, an 8-knot cruising speed and a 13.5 knot top speed. The new 26XP Fast uses the same mold but eliminates the keel and bulb and adds some post-mold strakes; Malaz emphasizes that it’s a planing hull.
The 26XP is a collaboration between Can Yalman Design in Turkey and Umberto Tagliavi, the Italian naval architect who has worked with Numarine on many of its yachts. It has an almost plumb bow, a raked-back windshield, and a modern clean feel.
The salon is comfortable, with large settees on each side and a dining table forward. The galley is enclosed, with a door leading to the port side deck, so the crew can serve guests in the cockpit without disturbing others in the salon.
Below, the master stateroom is full-beam amidships, with a centered king-sized bed, a desk/vanity on the port side and a settee to starboard. A large head is aft to port, while a large wardrobe is to starboard. The VIP stateroom is forward, with an offset bed. A large guest cabin is to port, while a smaller one is to starboard with twin berths. Two crew cabins with a head are aft of the engine compartment.
Denison Yachting is selling the 26XP Fast in the U.S. Price: $6,950,000.
