For Riviera, the name says it all. The Australian builder’s new 4600 Sport Yacht is part of the Platinum series, which Riviera says represents “sleek styling, luxurious single-level living, and heritage sea-keeping capabilities.” To make sure there’s no confusion, the series’ platinum color scheme sets it apart from most of the other boats in a harbor.
The 4600 is the smallest in the Platinum series; there are also 5400 and 6000 models. It’s a standout family cruising boat, with three staterooms (although one could be converted to a lounge) and two heads below. The standard twin 600-hp Volvo IPS800 pod drives produce a top speed of just over 30 knots, and they have the joystick control that makes light work of docking and slow-speed maneuvering.
The aft cockpit is covered for protection and it is marked by an inviting wraparound sofa and a folding teak-and-holly table. An outdoor galley is on the starboard side, with a grill, sink and ice-maker. A glass door opens to the salon, where a window on the port side of the aft bulkhead lifts up to connect the main galley there to the cockpit. The galley is fully equipped for cruising, with Corian countertops. A large fridge and storage space is opposite.
A U-shaped settee and table on a raised platform are forward on the starboard side, and the helm, with two high Recaro seats, is to port. The captain’s seat is next to an opening window there, with the joystick control at the captain’s left hand. An opening sun roof is overhead.
Below, the master stateroom is full beam amidships with a loveseat on the port side; the head has a home-like walk-in shower. The VIP cabin is forward, with an island berth; it shares a head and shower. The third cabin is on the port side with over/under berths; that space can be used as a lounge if the owner doesn’t want a third cabin.
All the way aft, the hydraulic swim platform extends out five more feet at the touch of a button. Lift up the transom and the garage is 8’ 8” deep. A three-person sun lounge is on the foredeck.
The Riviera 4600 Sport Yacht Platinum will be on display at the big Miami boat show, starting Feb. 14.
