A German start-up is now starting sea trials on its new all-electric, high-performance 31-foot RIB that cruises at 30 knots and hits 50 knots at its top speed.
The company is called eD-TEC, which stands for Electric Driven Technology. Based in Munich, the company was founded by Michael Jost, the former chief strategy officer for Volkswagen, and the new carbon-fiber monohull was developed by Sven Akermann, who’s been designing performance sail and power boats since 2007.
The 31-footer is the first in a range of RIBS from 22 to 55 feet. It’s due to be delivered this summer, and it’s offered with both cruising and high-performance battery packs. The top battery pack now offers 100kWh so the boat can cover 30 miles on a single charge. The company is working on a 140kWh pack for more range. Now you can recharge the battery pack up to 80 percent capacity in 40 minutes, with a fast charger.
The RIB is driven by eD-TEC’s own propulsion system, called Ed-QDrive, using surface-piercing props. It’s a plug-and-play system that the company says is easy to install, maintain and replace.
The 31 is offered in multiple colors and layouts. In the standard version, the helm is centered, with two seats under a hardtop. A large sun pad is aft. More seats, a head with shower, and fridge are all options. You also can fit the hull with hydrofoils.
