New Design for Exploration Yacht

By now, we’re all familiar with the “beach club” or “terrace” trends in current yacht design, where the aft deck and swim platform combine into a social zone that extends out over the water or the sides of the bulwarks drop down to provide more useable space when the yacht’s stopped. To varying degrees, you could see these concepts on boats both large and small at boat shows all around the world in the past few years.

Now, Pastrovich Studios in Monaco has taken those ideas one step (or several steps) further. Pastrovich, a highly regarded firm with a reputation for cutting-edge projects, has come up with renderings of the 90-meter X-Kidd Stuff that it says expands the boundaries of luxury yacht design and utilitarian space for exploring and adventure.

Pastrovich says the versatile yacht combines a “cool silhouette and unlimited exploration” and will tap into the growing market for adventure yachts. It’s aimed at “sophisticated explorers,” according to the company.

Underway, X-Kidd Stuff has a low, sleek, futuristic profile. But when it’s stopped, the high topsides basically from the transom to almost half the way forward can fold away to provide a completely open platform to launch a variety of vessels and toys, from RIBs and jet skis to tenders and small boats . One of Pastrovich’s renderings even shows a fully rigged sailboat.

So far, X-Kidd Stuff exists only as a concept boat. But Pastrovich says that all the design elements are based on real-world technologies and can be applied to a new build today. Whatever happens, there’s no doubt we’ll be seeing some variation of X-Kidd Stuff on smaller yachts before too long.
