The flagship of Beneteau’s Antares fleet, the new 42-foot Antares 12 is a versatile flybridge cruiser that’s easy to like and easy to use.

The Antares 12 is a three-cabin, two-head family cruiser, powered by three 300-hp Mercury outboards, with a top speed of 36.8 knots. Two 400-hp Mercury outboards are options. A fingertip joystick control makes slow-speed maneuvering and docking easy. A door next to the helm opens to the starboard side deck, so the captain can move around the boat quickly.

All the way aft, a fixed bench seat runs across the transom, and the swim platform is linked by a hinged transverse bridge ahead of the outboards, so you can walk from side to side. A large terrace folds out of the starboard side of the aft deck to provide access to the water for swimming or diving.

The foredeck features a raised central island sun bed that’s large enough for three people, plus a two-person, forward-facing bench seat. The long flybridge has the upper helm plus a dinette aft, an outdoor galley with a fridge and grill, and a forward sun lounge.

The salon is filled with light from large side and front windows. A two-person raised co-pilot seat on the port side has a reverse backrest so the people sitting there can join the dinette. The table can be lowered and serve as an occasional guest berth, with an additional inset.

The galley is on the starboard side and runs the entire length aft, from behind the captain’s seat to the three-part patio doors that open to the cockpit. The new Antares is all one level, from the transom to the helm, so moving around the boat is safe and easy.

Below, the owner’s cabin is in the bow with a centered island bed; light flows in from side windows in the hull. The head is to starboard; the shower is large enough for two adults. The guest cabin on the port side has a twin bed that can be converted into a queen-sized double bed; this cabin has its own access to the day head. A modular third cabin on the starboard side can be ordered with a single or double berth.
