Back Cove Yachts, the venerable Maine builder of classic-looking Downeast-style cruisers announced at the Newport Intrnatijonal Boat Show in September that they were reintroducing the Back Cove 41 with many upgrades and new features.

The 41 is the builder’s flagship and has proven to be extremely popular worldwide. The new version has so many new features that Back Cove has given it a new name, the 412.

Because the boat’s essential design features work so well, in the 412 the hull, deck and accommodation plan remain the same in the 41.  But Back Cove has added a full height door right next to the helm for easy access to the starboard side deck.

Also at the helm, the 412 has a new electric remote fuel tank switching system which is backed up with manual valves.

The pilot house windows are now frameless and bonded directly to the superstructure with opening panes on both sides. A new siding door has been added aft and an electric aft window provides plenty of ventilation and a social connection to the cockpit.

Newly designed cockpit cushions with magnets make stowing them simple and easy.  The builder now offers aft facing seats in the cockpit or one of these can be turned into an outdoor grill.

A Glendenning electric reel and been built into the transom so the shore power cord can be deployed and retrieved with the press of a button.

The 412 now comes standard with a single Volvo D8 rated at 600-horsepower, with a Volvo D11 rated at 725-horsepower as an optional upgrade.

The new 412 is an attractive and sensible family cruiser with two double cabins and two heads. In its new version, the 412 will have many more years in front of it. Read more here.
