On October 4, Zeelander launched hull number two of their 79-foot 8 model. The gala party for the launch was held at the builder’s facilities in The Netherlands and was attended by the family that bought the new 8, many other owners and the Zeelander staff.
The new 8 represents the apex of the Zeelanded line and is a highly refined motor yacht that combines the company’s unique curvaceous hull and cabin designs with the highest of high-tech engineering and onboard systems. As the builder likes to say, Zeelander yachts are not for everyone.
The 8 is a three-season cruising boat with a large enclosed salon and inside steering. With the heaters warming the cabins, cool spring and fall nights will be enjoyable.
But, the real emphasis in the 8 is for spacious outdoor living. There is a large lounge and sun bed on the foredeck where guests can spend idle hours soaking up the rays. The forward sloping stern folds out to create a huge waterfront deck, which can be another lounging area or the launch pad for all sorts of water sports.
Under the cockpit, the builder has included a drive-in garage that is accessed via a door in the port topsides so the dinghy can be safely stowed while underway. This is a mega-yacht feature that sets the 8 apart from other boats of this size.
The main deck has an open-air oval dinette that will seat up to 10. A bar with four stools runs across the forward end of the cockpit and then, though large sliding door, you enter the salon.
Dow below there are three double cabins with en-suite heads and showers. Forward there are two cabins, one with a single berth that might be for a crew, and one with upper and lower bunks that could be a kids cabin.
Powered by twin Volvo D13 IPS drives, the 79-footer has a top speed of 40 knots and a cruising range of over 600 miles at 25 knots.
