The new flagship of Prestige’s line of luxury yachts, the sleek, Euro-styled, streamlined 680 S comes with three or four staterooms below and a sophisticated, light-filled salon that makes cruising easy and enticing anywhere in the world. A new large sliding-glass sunroof that opens over the salon is particularly striking and is also unusual on a flybridge yacht. But the flybridge on the Prestige 680 S, with a low-profile, extremely-raked radar arch, is located farther aft than usual to accommodate the sunroof, adding to the sense that the boat is moving forward even when it is standing still. An owner…

The flagship of the Horizon Power Catamaran fleet, the new Horizon 74 PC is an owner-operated luxurious cruising yacht with four staterooms, all with en suite heads, plus dining, entertaining and relaxing areas that take full advantage of the boat’s massive 28’ 3” beam. The Horizon 74 PC just made its debut at the Miami Yacht Show, and it will be displayed at the Palm Beach International Boat Show starting on March 22. The Horizon’s easy living starts on the main deck, where the aft deck, salon and master stateroom forward are all on the same level. The salon has…
You can’t say this about many boats, but the new Arcadia Sherpa is truly unique. When I stepped aboard at the Miami Yachts Show with my Cruising Odyssey colleague Scott Akerman, we both stopped and said some version of Holy Smoke. And it’s a happy-making boat. When you step on board, you want to take off, to head for parts unknown. And you want to take a whole lot of your friends with you. Take a look at the Sherpa’s open main deck; a whole lot of your friends will fit there, and if they all don’t have a great…
The new Fountaine Pajot 37 MY, the company’s entry-level cruiser, is a combination of many things, all of them good. It has all the space inherent in a catamaran design, making for comfortable living and entertaining on board. It has the easy seakeeping ability also inherent in a cat, where the boat’s widely spaced hulls seem to glide over the water. And it has the modern, French esthetic that makes the boat stand out in a harbor anywhere in the world. Fountaine Pajot has a wealth of experience building cats, and the new 37 joins a 40 and a…
Named the European Power Boat of the Year in 2017 for its freshly designed salon and use of space, the innovative Bavaria 40 Sedan will be on display at the Miami International Boat Show. With two or three cabins, and two heads, the Bavaria 40 features a new layout where the helm is situated a bit farther aft than usual, so that the captain is part of the social interaction in the salon. The boat has large windows all around; the view from the helm is excellent. What’s also a bit different is that the engine room, with a 300-hp…
The new, aggressively styled Prestige 630S with a light-filled interior and proud French pedigree will be launched in the U.S. at the Miami Yacht Show on Collins Avenue, starting Feb. 15. The newest in Prestige’s SportYacht lineup, the 630S has three cabins (plus a captain’s quarters) and a 24-knot cruising speed powered by twin 725-hp Volvos with IPS950 pod drives. Inside, the 630S has a clean, contemporary, European-styled salon, with luxurious settees and a dining table where guests can enjoy 360-degree views from windows all around. In addition, a large sliding glass sunroof lets in more light and fresh air…
Here’s something new and different, the 78-foot, steel-hulled Livingstone 24, named after the famed British explorer and designed to take you anywhere in the world. Last summer, its owner, Johan Hartman, who built the boat at his own yard in The Netherlands, drove it for an extended cruise to the Nordic countries before crossing the North Sea and spending two weeks in London. The Livingstone clearly has a look of its own, reminiscent of a 1930s ocean liner with a unique retro décor, mixed with a Dutch minimalist design and driven by state-of-the-art technologies. Powered by a single 350-hp MAN…
Grand Banks is moving up. After the successful launch of its new, highly acclaimed 60 last year, it is now building the first 60 Skylounge with a totally enclosed upper pilothouse in its factory in Malaysia. The boat is scheduled to be launched this summer. The 60 Skylounge offers more living space above the bridge deck, and 360-degree unobstructed views while cruising or on the hook. Laid up with fully infused carbon fiber, the Skylounge keeps the 60’s graceful proportions and lines, while essentially adding another deck to the boat’s classic profile. The original 60, which comes with a flybridge,…
An improved and more upscale version of the popular Camano 31, the new Helmsman Trawler 31 is being launched at the Seattle boat show, starting Jan. 26. The new Helmsman has the same hull, stability and performance as the old Camano, but now has a redesigned master stateroom and galley, a larger salon and an upgraded interior with more warmth and lots of teak. Overall, the new Helmsman 31 has a no-nonsense salty approach to cruising, offering lots of easy living space inside and outside the boat. With three large windows in front (the middle one opens), and large side…
Nordhavn is starting work on a new 80-foot boat, the latest addition to its long-range cruisers, at the South Coast yard in Xiamen, China. It fits between the company’s 76- and 86-foot models. “For some, the 86 is just too big,” says Jim Leishman, Nordhavn’s vice president. “At 80 feet, this boat will be that much more manageable.” While maintaining all of Nordhavn’s famed seakeeping and world-cruising attributes, the new 80 will have a more modern look than some of the company’s previous models. The sheerline, for example, is long and straight; the foredeck is almost parallel to the waterline.…
