Outer Reef Classic 630 MY: New Comfortable, Contemporary Cruising Yacht. See Video

Scheduled for an introduction at the Cannes yacht show in September, the new Outer Reef Classic 630 MY represents a contemporary version of a large, comfortable cruising yacht that would stand out at ports around the world. With three staterooms, two heads, a large salon, and a traditional pilothouse (with a centered helm for the captain and a raised, L-shaped settee with a table for guests), the Outer Reef 630 is set up both for safe, extended cruising for a family and friends or for entertaining a crowd closer to home. Starting aft, the Outer Reef 630 has a large…

Outer Reef 880 Rounds Cape Horn: You-Are-There Photo Gallery

It’s not often that we get to see some great pictures of a recreational powerboat going round Cape Horn, one of the most treacherous cruising grounds in the world. But when Argo, an Outer Reef 880, conquered the Horn a few months ago, photographer Andrew Ulitsky was on board, as was Argo owner Paul Hawran and Outer Reef Yachts president and CEO Jeff Druek. Take a look below as some shots of the adventure of a lifetime. And for more, go to: http://www.outerreefyachts.com/expedition-yacht-adventure-to-cape-horn

Report from Palm Beach: “The Best of the Season.” Traditionally, the Palm Beach boat show is a buyer’s show; a lot of people, so the thinking goes, look at the Miami shows, but then a month later they actually buy in Palm Beach. The Palm Beach show, which just ended, certainly had a lot of the major cruising boats that had already been displayed in Miami, but it also had some new ones, including the Vicem 46IPS from Turkey and the Minorca 34 from Spain, while the new Sabre 45 (from Maine, of course) was undergoing sea trials just up…

Outer Reef 88 Rounds Cape Horn with Company President on Board: Great Video

Not that many boat company presidents get to join one of their owners cruise around Cape Horn, one of the most dangerous bodies of water in the world, but then not that many production boats actually go around Cape Horn to begin with. But Jeff Druek, president and CEO of Outer Reef Yachts (above left), recently joined Paul Hawran (above right) on Hawran’s Outer Reef 880 cockpit motoryacht, Argo, as it rounded the horn. For both, it was the experience of a lifetime. Hawran, now 64, has been boating since he was 21 and bought a 20-foot Mako with…

A Look Back at Miami: Let’s Hear It for the NMMA and Virginia Key I haven’t seen such an upbeat boat show in many years – probably before 2008, in fact. At the Miami International Boat Show last week on Virginia Key the docks were crowded, people were having fun, taking demo rides, buying boats. It wasn’t as if they didn’t have enough to choose from. Indeed, the show had 1,300 new boats for sale, including 550 in the water: big boats, small boats, outboard boats, inboard boats. If it floats it was there. And people were happy. Several told…

Outer Reef 580: An Elegant Long-Range Cruiser

The new Outer Reef 580 has just about everything you need for long-range cruising or living aboard: three staterooms, two heads, a raised pilothouse, a flybridge, a Portuguese bridge, and enough teak everywhere to warm the heart of even the saltiest cruiser among us. There’s even simulated hull planking to add to the classic look. With large windows, the pilothouse provides great visibility; it also houses an L- shaped settee on a raised platform, a teak table on a stainless steel pedestal, and a Stidd helm chair. From the 580’s pilothouse, one teak stairway leads up to the flybridge, while…
