New, Easy-To-Use, DutchCraft 56: “The Ultimate All-Purpose Yacht”

The all-new, easy-to-use and easy-to-enjoy DutchCraft 56 will be launched at the Cannes Yachting Festival, starting Sept. 10. The minimalist-styled, aggressively designed DutchCraft 56 is nothing if not versatile. It can be used as an expedition boat, a dive boat, a fishing boat, a family cruising boat, a party boat (it has seats for 44 people), or just about anything else you can think of. Indeed, Sietse Koopmans, the head and founder of DutchCraft, calls it “the ultimate all-purpose yacht.” Koopmans is also the head and founder of Zeelander Yachts, and his family has been in the boating business in…

New Zeelander 72: A Modern, 40-Knot, Dutch Masterpiece

Running down Narragansett Bay off Newport at 39.8 knots on an early summer afternoon, the only sound I could hear at the helm of the new Zeelander 72 flagship was the action of the water. After a few minutes, I realized that this iconic-looking, Dutch-built, low-profile cruiser was one of the most solid and smoothest-riding boats I’ve ever been on. These…

Zeelander, the Dutch company that builds boats reminiscent of the classic 1930’s commuter yachts on Long Island Sound, is working on a new 72 flagship that will be launched early next year.  Leonardo van den Berg, Zeelander’s commercial director, says the new 72 carries “a sportier look” than the company’s existing 55- and 44-foot models. The bow is a bit more prominent than in previous boats, but the new 72 carries the company’s signature low profile, long sheerline, reverse transom and suggestive tumblehome that have marked the earlier models. Zeelanders have always looked a bit more Down East than Dutch.…

Zeelander Owners Cruise Down Rhine, Help Plan New 55-foot Corniche

Zeelander, the Dutch builder of gorgeous commuter-style boats, just had an owners’ rendezvous down the Rhine River in Germany, which served to showcase their popular 44-foot model and also to introduce owners to the idea of a new 55-foot cabriolet-style Corniche flagship (see rendering above). At stops along the way, Zeelander asked owners for their input on the design, interior and materials for the new Corniche, which they will release at the end of May. “We have always listened to owners’ feedback,” says Leonardo van den Berg, commercial director of Zeelander Yachts, “but we have never involved them in a…
