Here’s a boat that’s built for fun. Take a look at the new 40 Open Sunreef Power, a fast, luxurious iteration of a boat that just keeps on giving – or folding out for more and more space. One thing’s for sure with the Sunreef 40 – you’re not going to run out of room. And although this boat, hull number one, is open, Sunreef specializes in customizing its boats, and an owner can have a cabin with a double bed in the bow and a head in one of the cat’s hulls if he wants to go cruising.
Meanwhile, the new 40 Open “has unbelievable amounts of lounging space, and is naturally balanced at high speeds,” says Sunreef President Francis Lapp. Built in the heart of the historic Gdansk Shipyard in Poland, the 40 Open features two folding bulwark platforms that expand the boat’s already huge amount of lounging and relaxing space. The dining area on the bow takes advantage of the cat’s 17-foot beam, while the sunpads aft are made for comfort. There’s storage under them for water toys or diving gear.
Powered by twin 435-hp Volvo diesels with IPS600 pod drives, the 40 Open cruises at 35 knots. This boat has a planing hull, but the company is working on a hydrofoil model that it expects to top out at 60 knots. One of the world’s leading designers and builders of luxury catamarans (the 68 was just introduced at the Fort Lauderdale show in November), Sunreef has included many upscale touches on the new 40, including fine upholstery, a wet bar and sun awnings.
