Azimut was a big winner at the recent Cannes Yachting Festival. The company itself, the Azimut/Benetti Group, won the Shipyard of the Year Award; the new Azimut S6 won the award for innovation, and the new Azimut 55 Fly won the award for best interior design, both in the 46 to 60-foot category.

Azimut launched the S6 sport cruiser (pictured at top) at Cannes. The largest in the Italian builder’s S series, the 59-foot, three-stateroom yacht features glazed hull surfaces and a distinctive bow that make the series easily recognizable. It also has carbon-fiber construction for strength and light weight.

The S6’s exterior, by superyacht designer Stefano Righini, has a low profile, highly raked windshield and low and raked radar arch. The interior is bright and clean with an elegant, contemporary European look, lots of open space and warm colors.

The Azimut 55 Fly (pictured above) was introduced at the Düsseldorf show in January. Its exterior also was drawn by Righini, but the now prize-winning interior was by Achille Salvagni, who’s name appears on many A lists of international designers. The 55’s lines, inside and out, are soft and smooth. The interior features five different materials: gray zebrawood, dark oak, glossy black lacquer, and bronze and steer inserts.

A distinctive feature is the entrance to the salon, which is designed as a lobby, with the galley to port, so it can serve guests in the cockpit or inside the yacht. The salon has a large U-shaped sofa on the port side and a smaller settee to starboard.

Both yachts are sold in the United States by MarineMax.
