Monte Carlo Yachts just introduced its new MCY 70 at the Düsseldorf boat show, a new, more modern and light-filled version of the popular 70 it launched more than a decade ago that won plaudits and awards in Europe and the U.S. The new MCY 70 is a four-stateroom, three-head cruiser, designed by Nuvolari Lenard, and driven by twin 1,200-hp MAN diesels. The company says it has a 24-knot cruising speed and a 30-knot top speed.
With its contemporary Italian look, the new MCY 70 has lots of straight lines and lots of interior space for comfortable living on board. The windows and portlights are large throughout the boat; in the salon the windows extend below the backs of the sofa. The designers used lacquered woods to brighten the interior, with glass and black marble countertops and stainless steel details.
The flybridge is a main social center, with an aft console containing a grill, fridge and icemaker. The two-seat helm is to port; a large U-shaped settee is to starboard. An even larger settee is to port aft, with a large teak table. A carbon-fiber T-top offers protection from the elements.
In the cockpit, a large settee is aft with a table and three chairs. Glass doors lead to the salon, with a settee on the port side, opposite two easy chairs and an entertainment center. The galley is forward to port, opposite the helm.
Below, the master stateroom is midships with a centered bed, a settee on the port side and a vanity on the starboard side; there’s also a walk-in closet. Natural light flows in from oversized portholes. The en suite head area is large and luxurious, with a marble-countered vanity, marble on the bulkheads and deck, and a two-person-sized shower.
The VIP stateroom is forward, with a queen-sized bed another large en suite head. The other two guest staterooms are between the VIP and the master. They both have two single berths, and they share the third head.
MCY is part of the powerful, worldwide Beneteau group. The MCY 70 is expected to be available in the U.S. later this year.
