Horizon Launches New 77 with Unique Hybrid Hull and Windows Everywhere

Horizon Yacht will debut its new FD77 at the Palm Beach show, starting March 28. It’s designed for the owner-operator market with large windows all around, major entertaining areas and a hybrid hull with hard chines, soft chines and a tunnel. All in all, an interesting new boat.

The new 77 is Horizon’s entry level in its Fast Displacement series, with boats going up to 125 feet. The FD77 is specifically meant as a couple’s cruising boat, with all the amenities of the builder’s larger yachts but on a scale that does not require a crew.

It has a contemporary, open style throughout, with light American oak interiors and floor-to-ceiling glass sections to let in natural light in the salon, the dining area and the on-deck master stateroom. The master has a walk-in closet and large en suite head and shower. The three other staterooms are below on the accommodations deck. Two are VIP cabins, while the third is set up with twin berths that can be converted to a double.

The bridge deck aft is large enough for a 16-foot tender, while a “beach club” off the large teak swim platform has an L-shaped lounge and occasional chair and table, offering immediate access to the water and water sports.

The new Horizon is powered by twin 1,136-CAT diesels. We don’t have any performance figures yet. But the hybrid hull, a proprietary design, is intended to be efficient throughout its speed range. It has a sharp underwater bow protrusion to cut through the water and increase waterline length. There’s a hard chine at the bow for lift and soft chine midship and aft to reduce resistance. A tunnel further aft reduces resistance further, while decreasing draft. A long skeg adds to directional stability.

Specs.: LOA: 80’6’; Beam: 23’0”; Draft: 5’2”; Disp.: 77 tons; Fuel: 2,700 gals.; Water: 400 gals.; Power: 2×1,136-hp CAT diesels
