Fountaine Pajot power cats just keep on winning prizes. The new Fountaine Pajot 40 MY was just voted the Asia Boating “Best Multihull Motor Yacht up to 50 Feet” at the Singapore boat show. The jury of 15 Asian journalists and boating experts gave the award to the cat for its “excellent design and outstanding capabilities.” The new Fountaine Pajot 40 is based on the company’s 44, which won three awards last year, including European Powerboat of the Year at the Düsseldorf show.
The Fountaine Pajot 40 power cat has three cabins and two heads and is marked by an unusual amount of space and light inside and out. The almost-20-foot beam creates large social areas in the cockpit, salon, foredeck and up on the bridge. And Volvo Penta’s pod drives give it a quiet performance underway and a fingertip ease while maneuvering around a dock. Standard power comes from twin 260-hp Volvo diesels with IPS350 pod drives; twin 370-hp Volvos with IPS500 pod drives are optional.
You can climb on the boat from its wide swim platform and up steps on both sides of the transom into the cockpit, which has a long settee stretching across the back with a table and wet bar. It’s protected from the elements by the overhang from the flybridge.
Then you can enter the salon through large glass doors. It’s filled with natural light from large side windows and the wraparound windshield. The galley is aft to starboard, and a large L-shaped settee is to port, with the lower helm on the starboard side.
Below, the master stateroom is on the port side, with a walkaround bed set athwartships. The master head and shower are forward. On the starboard side, the larger VIP cabin is aft and the smaller guest cabin, with a scissors berth, is forward. The second head and shower are between the two cabins.
Up top, the flybridge, protected by a hardtop, offers more seating and lounging areas. The upper helm is to starboard, opposite a settee/lounge and wet bar to port. An L-shaped settee and lounging area is aft of the helm to starboard, with a table. There are two additional sunbed/lounges on the foredeck.
