New Horizon V68: Superyacht Concepts for an Owner-Operator

The new Horizon V68, with its distinctive plumb bow and aggressive pilothouse, is designed to provide superyacht amenities in an owner-operator size range. Horizon worked with superyacht designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett of Seattle to create the new 68 as a long-range cruiser on an under-70-feet platform.

One of the largest builders in Taiwan, Horizon just completed the first hull of its new flagship, a 140-footer. It applied many ideas from the larger yacht into the new 68, including the possibility for a lot of customization. You can order the 68 with three or four staterooms, for example, or with the “beach club” aft (see picture above) or with crew quarters there.

One unusual feature on the V68 is that there is no lower helm. Instead, a dining area is tucked beneath the windshield, and an internal staircase goes from the salon to the upper deck with the only helm station. The outsized owner’s cabin is full-beam amidships, but the boat’s 19’ 5” beam creates enough interior volume so that the layout can be changed to fit an individual owner’s needs. There are various configurations for all three decks, including an open or enclosed flybridge. But some things remain the same: The windows in the salon and the cabins are large, for example, to let in lots of natural light throughout the boat.

The V68 does have lots of outdoor social areas, including the protected aft deck and the large foredeck lounge. The swim platform also is extra large, to accommodate water sports as well as adding to the entertaining area if the boat has the beach club.

Standard power for the V68 comes from two 1,136-hp Cat diesels. The boat also comes with Zero-Speed stabilizers, bow and stern thrusters and automatic trim tabs.
