The new Outer Reef 640 Azure Motoryacht, a user-friendly cruiser with just about everything you need for a long, comfortable voyage, will debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, starting Sept. 10. The 640 is the first Outer Reef motoryacht with a galley aft layout, including a window that lowers to provide access to the aft deck for easy dining or entertaining.

Jeff Druek, the Outer Reef president and CEO, says the new 640 “embraces all the long-range cruising highlights and must-haves of the current Classic range, but has an even more dynamic and  progressive design built in to benefit the consummate blue-water adventurer.”

The large aft deck, protected from the elements by the overhang from the boat deck above, provides a major social space. You can get there from the molded-in swim platform, which also leads directly to the garage. Stairs port and starboard lead from the swim platform to the aft deck through gate doors. The aft deck has a large settee and a hidden transom shower with hot and cold water.

A full-length glass door leads to the salon; there’s also a large glass panel on the starboard side plus the lowering window to the salon to port; the result is that the salon, which also has large side windows, is filled with natural light. The L-shaped galley is to port, with generous countertops and storage areas to provide for lots of entertaining or extended cruising.

Up three steps, a comfortable U-shaped dinette is forward, to port, with a teak high-low table on a stainless steel pedestal. Stairs leading to the flybridge are to starboard. A settee is on the port side of the pilothouse, opposite the helm; the entire area has wrap-around windows to provide great views for the captain and guests. The Portuguese bridge has a hinged door opening to the foredeck.

The flybridge features seating forward of the helm, protected by a windscreen. The helm has a Stidd seat and a stainless steel destroyer wheel. Two L-shaped settees and a table are aft.

Below, the apartment-sized master stateroom is amidships, with a centered bed, lots of storage space and a large head and shower. The VIP stateroom is in the bow, with a guest stateroom a bit aft to starboard; both have en suite heads and showers.

The new 640 is powered by two 500-hp John Deere diesels, and the company says it has a 1,000 nm range. The running gear and rudders are protected by a short keel. A Side-Power bow thruster is standard to help with maneuvering around the docks.

Specs.: LOA: 63’1”; Beam: 17’2”; Draft: 4’10”; Disp.: 99,000 lbs.; Fuel: 1,000 gals.; Water: 300 gals.; Power: 2×500-hp John Deere diesels or 2×476 CAT diesels.
