Simrad Launches Two New Radars for Smaller Cruising Boats

Simrad Yachting just announced the launch of HALO20+ and HALO20 radars, a pair of compact, pulse-compression units designed for smaller cruising boats. Both radars provide excellent detection with short-range performance, while HALO20+ has the fastest rotation on the market and can detect targets farther away than the HALO20.

With a 20-inch dome, the HALO20+ is Simrad’s smallest pulse compression radar yet, delivering a full 360-degree sweep every second. Simrad says it has an industry-first 60 RPM rotation at ranges up to 1.5 nm. These fast updates give boat owners an almost real-time view of close range activity, helping to avoid collisions and keep track of fast-moving targets.

The new radars are made for a wide range of coastal boats. HALO20+ delivers high-quality detection at both short and long ranges (up to 36 nm). You can monitor two distance ranges at the same time in the Dual Range mode; that means, for example, that you could keep an eye on distant weather cells, while also tracking boats moving nearby.

With HALO20+, you also can monitor potential problems quickly, since it delivers instant feedback on whether targets are moving toward you, or away from you. Color coding highlights possible hazards, improving your situational awareness and reducing the risk of a collision. And it automatically checks every target in range, so you don’t need to select them individually.

For its part, HALO20 is a cost-effective radar detecting targets up to 24 nm away. It has a small footprint and a low profile, making it easier to fit on smaller boats. It tracks up to 10 targets at any time.

HALO20+ costs $2,199 and HALO 20 is $1,699. Read more:
