The new, French-inspired Gran Turismo 36 is the latest express cruiser in Beneteau’s lineup, and it’s made for the American market in Cadillac, Michigan. It’s also the first Gran Turismo with optional outboard power, although it comes with sterndrives too.

The Gran Turismo 36 is open, light-filled and has lots of curves. It’s designed for entertaining and having fun on the water, and it’s two cabins below mean it also can be used for cruising with a family or friends. And it has sun lounging areas both fore and aft.

Seven people can fit in the cockpit lounge, and the aft bench seats fold back and serve as headrests for sunbathing while facing the water. There’s an outdoor galley just forward of the swim platform, with a sink and two-burner stove. The Gran Turismo 36 has an optional extension of the swim platform, for the sterndrive version, while the swim platform is built around the engines on the outboard version.

Two bench seats face the helm, which comes with two Garmin 12-inch chartplotters. An electric sunroof lets in more light overhead.

Below, the master stateroom is forward, with an island double berth, two hanging lockers and storage space. The head and shower are in separate areas. The guest cabin aft has two berths that can be fit together or separated; it has sitting headroom by the beds with a stand-up area just inside the cabin door.

The salon has a settee for three facing the galley on the port side, with a gas oven and fridge. Long hullside windows let in a lot of natural light.

The Gran Turismo 36 has a 17-degree deadrise at the transom, and it has several power options, primarily twin 300-hp MerCruiser DTS V8 sterndrives, or twin outboards up to 700-hp. It’s base price is $360,000.

Specs.: LOA: 37’11”; Beam: 11’4”; Draft: NA; Disp.: 15,901 lbs.; Fuel: 200 gals.; Water: 40 gals.; Power: Twin sterndrives or twin outboards up to 700 hp.
