Beneteau Launches New Gran Turismo 50 Sportfly Cruiser

Beneteau just launched its Gran Turismo 50 Sportfly, the new flagship of its popular sport cruiser fleet. It is the latest iteration of the Gran Turismo 50, which was introduced at the Miami show two years ago. The flybridge adds an entirely new social and navigating area to the boat, and opens up the potential buying market to people who enjoy entertaining and cruising up there.

The Gran Turismo 50 Sportfly is designed by the talented Italian team of Nuvolari-Lenard. The basic boat comes in a two-cabin, two-head arrangement, with the galley down. It also is offered with a third cabin, with the galley moved up to the salon just behind the single helm seat.

The new boat is powered by twin 435-hp Volvos with IPS600 pod drives, giving the captain fingertip control while docking and providing a top speed of just under 30 knots. Cruising speed is in the mid-20-knot range.

For a 50-foot cruising boat, the Gran Turismo is open and filled with light. A four-panel glass door slides open between the cockpit and the salon, effectively turning them into one large social area. The raked front windshield admits a lot of natural light, as do the electrically controlled side windows in the salon.

The teak swim platform lowers hydraulically, for optimal access to water sports. It’s large enough to hold a jet ski. A 9’ 5” RIB can fit in the garage. The cockpit has an optional grill at the stern. A large, L-shaped settee, built for eight, is on the port side of the cockpit with a teak table. The settee converts into a sunbed.

In the salon, there’s seating for six on an L-shaped lounge on the port side with a smaller settee to starboard. The helm station has a single captain’s chair.

Up top, the helm is on the starboard side, again with a single chair. A U-shaped lounge, seating six, is to port, with a teak table.

Below, the master stateroom is full-beam amidships, with a centered queen bed and light from a large window in each side of the hull. It has an en suite head and shower. The VIP cabin is forward, also with light from windows in each side. It too has an en suite head and shower.

The galley is between the two, on the port side, with an L-shaped Corian countertop and lacquered cabinets, a fridge/freezer, microwave, grill, and ceramic hob. A four-person lounge is to starboard. In the three-cabin version of the boat, the extra cabin, with twin berths, replaces some of the galley and lounge area here.

For another social area, there’s a large sunpad, with backrests, on the foredeck.

Base price of this latest Gran Turismo: $910,000.
