New Technohull 40 Explorer RIB Launched in Miami; See Video

The first new Greek-made Technohull 40 Explorer has just been delivered to an owner in the United States, and the sleek, black, 70-mph RIB is getting noticed in Miami Beach. But it qualifies as a high-end, exciting, and seaworthy day boat wherever it goes – island-hopping in the Bahamas, exploring the Keys, or simply cruising around Biscayne Bay for an afternoon picnic. (You can see a video of the boat in Miami by clicking on the link at the end of this story.)

Actually, the Technohull 40 is more than a day boat. Under the console it has a double bed and a head with a sink and a shower. A fridge and sink are built into a console behind the helm seats. There’s also a wet bar – and an espresso machine. A Fusion entertainment system is standard; so is a Raymarine AXIOM 12-inch touchscreen MFD display and depthsounder.

But the performance sets the Technohull apart. It has a deep-V, Dynastream stepped hull that performs well at any speed. With twin 450-Mercury Verado outboards, the boat planes at 14 mph, and tops out at more than 70 mph. The hull deflects spray while providing stability and a comfortable ride even in a seaway.

The decks are teak, and the boat has lots of open lounging areas, with a sun pad and seating on the bow; owners can choose for more seating or larger sun pads aft. They also can select either a sleek hardtop or a simple Bimini for protection over the helm.

The Explorer’s tubes are made from ORCA 1670 fabrics, and the hulls are vacuum-infused and laid up by hand with epoxy and polyester. Technohull also makes a sportier 38GS model, which it just launched in Istanbul; it too is powered by twin 450-hp Verados.

Specs.: LOA: 39’7”; Beam: 11’4”; Draft: NA; Disp.: 9,920 lbs.; Fuel: 211 gals.; Water: 34 gals.; Power: 2×450-hp Mercury Verado outboards.
