Rafael Nadal, one of the greatest tennis players in recent history, just took possession of his new 80 Sunreef Power catamaran in his home on the Spanish island of Mallorca in the Western Med. The luxurious $5.7 million yacht was launched last month at the Sunreef yard in Gdansk, Poland, and cruised down to Mallorca.

Nadal, who has won 19 Grand Slam men’s singles titles and is currently rated at the number two player in the world, says he has loved yachting since his childhood. He grew up in the town of Manacor, on Mallorca, where he still has a tennis academy. He and his family live nearby, in the seaside town of Porto Cristo; it’s across the island from the capital of Palma.

Francis Lapp, the Sunreef president and founder (pictured above, with Nadal), delivered the new 80 Power to the tennis great, and said it was an unforgettable event “to hand over the yacht to such an amazing person and athlete as Rafael Nadal.” Lapp said the yard made every effort to deliver the yacht that Nadal and his wife, Marina, dreamed of, and said he was “convinced that they will have a great time with their friends and family on board.”

Before commissioning the yacht, Nadal and his family spent a holiday charter on a Sunreef sailing cat.

The new power yacht is fully personalized, with bright beige, cream and coffee colors in the interior. The salon on the main deck provides direct access to the foredeck, or what the company calls “the front terrace.” Nadal’s owner’s suite features an opening side balcony; other luxurious guest cabins with en suite heads also are on the lower decks.

The 80 Sunreef Power is an ultramodern yacht, created for offshore cruising. With its 39’ 4” beam, it has an enormous amount of space for comfort and entertaining. The flybridge has a bar, barbeque and sunning area; the stern has a garage for a jet ski and a huge swim platform that lowers into the water, and the foredeck has a massive sun pad and two lounging areas. It’s powered by twin 1,200 diesels. Read more:
