Jeanneau is now displaying its all-new Leader 10.5 Series 2 family-friendly, very versatile cruiser at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

The 36-foot boat is a new version of the Leader 10.5 that Jeanneau introduced five years ago. But the Series 2 has a hull designed by Michael Peters, the Sarasota designer who specializes in drawing slippery and efficient craft, and the entire hull is now vacuum-bagged and resin-infused to give it more strength and rigidity.

Jeanneau launched its Leader series in North America in 2016, and the French boats became popular for their looks, their simplicity and their efficiency. The 10.5 Series 2 carries on those traditions.

It also creates more useable space with a “terrace” that opens from the port side of the cockpit, providing immediate access to the water for swimming or water sports. The terrace is standard, the guardrails and swim ladder are optional.

The new Jeanneau is powered by twin outboards; 300-hp engines are standard, but you can order up to twin 425s. Swim platforms flank the outboards on each side. You walk on the boat from the port side and enter the cockpit. A large L-shaped lounge with a folding table is to starboard.

The helm is protected by a T top, with a sliding sunroof. The helm has three separate seats with bolsters and armrests. The dash can hold two 12-inch Garmin displays. An outdoor galley is just aft of the helm seats. It faces the cockpit seating and includes a fridge, electric grill, sink and either a livewell or additional storage.

Below, the Leader 10.5 has two cabins, suitable for a family or two cruising couples. Forward, a breakfast nook or lounge in the bow converts to a V-berth with a privacy curtain; large hull-side windows let in a lot of natural light. A head with a shower is on the starboard side. A second cabin is midships and can sleep two.

On the foredeck, three integrated chaise lounges provide another social or relaxing area either underway or at rest.

Michael Peters’ hull has a 21-degree deadrise at the transom, so it should perform well in rough weather and still provide a comfortable platform in calmer conditions.

Base price for the Jeanneau Leader 10.5 Series 2 is $192,890.
