Nordhavn Finishing New 80 with Vripack Interior

Nordhavn is working on its first new 80 with a sophisticated Scandinavian-style interior by Vripack, the Dutch design firm. It will be completed next year.

The company has already finished hull number one of the 80, designed as a go-anywhere world cruiser that can be run by an owner-operator. Built at the South Coast yard  in Xiamen, China, the yacht will be ready for inspection by the end of the year at Nordhavn’s headquarters in Dana Point, California.

The 80 is a departure for Nordhavn in that the company is collaborating with Vripack to create a new, more contemporary, European look for its traditional passagemakers. New owners of the Nordhavn 80 now have two choices for interiors. The standard interior is walnut, cherry and teak, with neutral fabric-covered walls. The other possibility is the Vripack interior, which uses natural woods, Scandinavian touches, and a modern design aesthetic.

Hulls number one and two of the 80 have the standard layout, while hull number three is the first with the Vripack option. You can see the new look here:

The 80 has four staterooms, sleeping eight people. The owner’s cabin is full beam on the main deck and is filled with natural light from three large vertical windows. The design includes American oak with hand white wash and brushed-brass elements. The three other cabins, with twin- or double-berth arrangements, carry out the same design.

Optional layouts include a captain’s cabin behind the bridge or an upper level owner’s suite behind the bridge in lieu of the sky lounge.

The new 80 is powered by twin 375-hp John Deere diesels, producing a top speed of 12 knots and a cruising speed of 9 knots. It carries 4,810 gallons of fuel for an ocean-crossing range.

The yacht will have skegs and grounding shoes around each prop for safety; the hull sections forward of the props will be fuller and deeper than usual for additional protection.

Specs.: LOA: 78’8”; Beam: 23’4”; Draft: 6’9”; Disp.: 280,358 lbs.: Fuel: 4,810 gals.; Water: 800 gals.; Power: 2×375-hp John Deere diesels. Read more:
