Okean Launches Prize-Winning 80 With Open Layout

The new Okean 80 Flybridge gives a whole new meaning to an open layout. Made in Brazil, the new cruiser won the Revelation of the Year Award at the 2020 World Yachts Trophies ceremony in Cannes in September.

The flagship of the Okean fleet (there’s also a 50 and a 55), the new 80 delivers on Okean’s signature “Open Up Your World” theme. Indeed, it features a seamless transition between the interior and exterior spaces in the salon, where the hull sides drop down to form balconies and the side doors open wide to let in the sea breezes.

The 78-foot yacht, with a plumb bow and straight sheer, has a very contemporary look overall. But the amount of glass is unusual; panoramic windows wrap all the way around the salon, for example, and stretch along the sides of the accommodation deck below (with vertical windows for the full-beam master stateroom amidships).

The beam is 19’ 8”, but it grows a full six feet when you drop down the bulwarks that run along the main deck. Then you can also open the doors into the salon and you’ve created a new indoor/outdoor space, with sun lounges overlooking the water on each side.

Another innovation is aft, where the transom opens up to become a beach club, with more sun lounges and relaxing areas. But the swim platform becomes something of a transformer. You can lower it so it’s just below water level, if you want to enjoy water sports, or you can raise it all the way up where it serves as a dive platform.

The Okean 80 has four staterooms and five heads, and it’s powered by twin 1,550-hp MAN diesels. Top speed is 25 knots, and the range is 300 nm at 18 knots.

Okean is just a three-years-old company. It is represented in the U.S. by HMY Yachts.
