As I’m sure readers of this website know, we have a deep respect for members of the United States Coast Guard. Indeed, the men and women in the Coast Guard are highly trained – and highly motivated – professionals who often put their lives on the line to keep us safe out there.

But, as we also know, bad things can happen to the best of us. That’s certainly the case here, where a 29-foot Coast Guard boat ran into the south jetty in Port Aransas, Texas, on Tuesday night. Four crew were taken to a  hospital, reportedly with minor injuries.

The accident occurred about 8 p.m. on the ship-side channel of the jetty. The boat was still on the rocks the next morning (see the pictures below). It was responding to a search-and rescue-situation at the time, but that case did not involve a major injury. We don’t have any other details.

The jetty, some 7,385 feet long, was completed in 1919 (the north jetty is 9,241 feet long), and the deep water opened channels to Aransas Pass, Rockport, and Corpus Christi. The area is a favorite South Texas fishing site. Read more:
