New Aquila 54 Power Cat: An Instant Hit

It would be a considerable understatement to say that the new Aquila 54 Yacht Power Catamaran is a hit right out of the box. Indeed, the big new Aquila has already been nominated as a finalist for the Multihull of the Year Award, and it hasn’t even officially been launched yet.

But it’s easy to see why the judges choose the Aquila. Lex Raas, the president of Aquila product development, says that the 54 “breaks new boundaries, bow to stern, on a boat of this size.” He said it has “integrated hull bulbs, optional fully enclosed flybridge, Portuguese bridge, choice of four different layouts with a modern finish, and comfort and space only found on significantly bigger boats.”

Boats are nominated for the awards by a jury of journalists from Multihulls World and organizers of the International Multihull Boat Show. The winners will be announced at the International Multihull Show on April 9 at La Grande-Motte in Southern France. Voting for the winners is open to the public, you can vote at www.multihulloftheyear.com before April 5.

The Aquila 54 has a massive salon with tempered glass side windows for maximum light, and it’s large enough to offer most of the comforts of home, including several sofas and seating areas and a large galley. The master stateroom is forward, and takes advantage of the cat’s more than 25-foot beam to offer panoramic views.

The aft cockpit has a separate dining area and an indoor/outdoor bar, and the swim platform provides easy access to water sports. You can carry a tender there on solid mounting blocks. The cat’s large foredeck has several sun lounges for relaxing underway or on the hook.

Aquilas are made by Sino Eagle in China and are sold to private buyers and also put into the MarineMax Vacations charter fleet.
