Evo Designing Innovative 79-foot Cruiser

Here’s a new concept from Evo Yachts in Naples, Italy: A 79-feet-long combination of a sailboat and powerboat, with four helm stations, an aft “beach” area that’s just above the water, and an entirely new way of looking at the cruising experience.

The new yacht is called the Evo V8, the first model in Evo’s new V line. Valerio Rivellini, the Neapolitan yacht designer, says the Evo V8 is at the intersection of sail and power. “Motor yacht owners begin their holiday when they reach their destination, either at anchor or in port,” he says, “whereas sailing yacht owners start their holiday right away, as soon as they step aboard.”

The first of the yacht’s four helm stations is on the main deck, forward of the salon. The second is on the cabin top, with a retractable steering console. They are joined by two wheels on the port and starboard sides of the main deck, like the wheels on a sailboat.

The company says the position of these last two wheels will help with maneuvering. Side seats and couches near the wheels will provide for social interaction between the captain and passengers.

The main salon and dinette have large windows that lower almost all the way for lots of natural light and air. The beach area aft is just 2’ 3” above the waterline and has direct access to the master stateroom. It has 180-degree panoramic views and the hull sides open out. Three steps connect the beach to a lounge area that in turn opens to the master stateroom through large sliding glass doors.

The interior layout can be customized, but the first Evo V8 has three cabins below sleeping seven guests and a separate cabin for two crew. The first yacht will be launched in a few months for its Italian owner, and it will be displayed at the Cannes Yachting Festival this fall. Read more:
