Hodgdon, the historic Maine builder, just announced that it’s building new all-electric tenders, on the same hull as its diesel-powered 10.5-meter and 12-meter Venetian line of luxury tenders.

The new tenders will use Vita Power’s high-performance powertrains with dual-prop stern drives. The 10.5-meter (about 34 feet) will use a single electric motor and three Lithium-ion batteries. The 12-meter (abut 39 feet) will have twin motors and four batteries. The range for both boats is about 20 to 50 nm, depending on speed and sea conditions.

The batteries on both boats can be charged from the mothership, using AC or DC power; from AC shore power, or at Vita’s own dockside SuperPower stations. Based near Lake Maggiore, Italy, Vita says its SuperPower is the first fully marinized charging system, and the first fully electric propulsion system compatible with DC fast charging.

Vita also says the 10-meter (pictured above) is the most powerful electric powerboat on the market today. It combines 235kWh of compact liquid-cooled Lithium battery storage with a 400bhp continuous and 580bhp peak power. The electric-powered tenders will have no emissions and much less noise and vibration than the standard diesel powered tenders.

“The case for electric tenders for superyachts is proven, and the technology is available today,” said Rory Trahair, Vita’s CEO.

“We’re pleased to have developed two tenders that offer benefits that can only be achieved with electric, while remaining true to the Venetian line’s style and quality,” said Audrey Hodgdon the director of sales and marketing for Hodgdon Tenders, in East Boothbay.

The boats’ propulsion system is controlled on a touchscreen user interface designed by Vita with the BorromeodoeSilva studio in Milan. Read more:
