New Pearl 62: Family Cruiser with IPS Power

The highly styled, contemporary Pearl 62 is a family-oriented, owner-operator cruiser with four staterooms and three heads. With optional 900-hp Volvo IPS1200 pod drives, it tops out at 33 knots; dialed back to 10 knots, it has a range of 600 nm.

The 62 is the U.K. company’s entry-level yacht, joining the Pearl 80 and Pearl 95. With a luxury-level fit and finish, it was created by Bill Dixon, the British naval architect, and Kelly Hoppen, MBE, the interior designer. It is built by the Xiaman Hansheng yard in China

The super-sized slanted windshield gives the Pearl 62 a sporty look. Picture windows admit a lot of light to the salon, where the galley is aft, opposite a dinette. A large-U shaped settee with a table is forward to port; an L-shaped lounge with two smaller tables is to starboard. Two helm chairs are on the starboard side; an electric door leading to the side deck is next to the helm.

The Pearl 62 comes with Volvo’s joystick controls; the dynamic positioning system is an option. A Seakeeper 9 gyro-stabilizer is another option. The yacht has Interceptor trim tabs and a bow thruster.

A bi-fold glass door with a stainless steel frame aft leads to the cockpit. A lounge with a teak table fits across the transom. The hydraulic teak swim platform can be lowered for water sports or launching PWCs from the garage. The platform actually moves a bit aft before it drops down, serving as a terrace on the water for a beach-club affect.

The foredeck has a lounge just under the windshield, plus a large sun lounge forward. It can be protected by an awning supported by carbon-fiber  poles.

Up top, the flybridge helm has two seats on the starboard side, with a sun lounge forward to  port. Another large U-shaped lounge is to port, opposite an L-shaped settee. Two more lounges with small tables are aft, port and starboard. For entertaining, the flybridge has a wet bar, sink and fridge.

Below, the owner’s stateroom is full-beam amidships, with the king-sized bed facing aft. The master has its own private staircase leading down from the starboard quarter of the salon. There’s a vanity on the port side, and a two seats with a table to starboard. The master head with a stall shower is to port.

The other three cabins are accessed from a central staircase under the windshield. The VIP with an island double berth is in the bow. The other two staterooms are on the port and starboard sides.
