Linssen Launches New 50 Coastal Cruiser

The brand-new Linssen 500GS is the largest open-cockpit boat the Dutch yard has built since it was founded in 1949.

Although it was designed for cruising the inland waterways of the Netherlands and France (and anywhere else in Europe), the 500GS would be equally at home in coastal cruises in the U.S. or on the Great Loop. With its air draft of just 10’ 8,” the newest Linssen could easily slide under most of the bridges in Florida and the Southeast.

The Linssen has a feature that could appeal to owners in colder climes, as well (not surprising, with its Dutch heritage). You push a button and a canopy deploys from the coamings on the cockpit, to extend the living area further even in bad weather.

Not a speedster, the steel-hulled Linssen is meant for relaxed cruising. Power comes from twin 110-hp Volvo Penta D3 engines, producing a top speed of 10 knots. Proportional bow and stern thrusters make for easy maneuvering around the docks or locks.

The salon is bright, with a large opening sunroof; solar panels are located father aft on the cabin top. The salon has a U-shaped settee, a low table and galley on the port side. A folding dinette/desk and two stools plus the helm station are to starboard. Watertight sliding doors open to the side decks both port and starboard.

Four-part doors open to the cockpit, giving owners many options for fresh air and access depending on the weather. The cockpit has a U-shaped settee, doors to the swim platform on both sides, and a teak deck.

Below, the large owner’s cabin is forward, with a double berth, lots of drawers, a walk-in closet, and a separate head and shower. The guest cabin has two berths, with a head and shower on the starboard side.
