Nouvoyage 33: Amphib Tender for Megayachts

For me, the Monaco Yacht  Show was always fun. Forget about playing James Bond at the Casino in Monte Carlo, the really outrageous action was down on the docks at Port Hercules, where the megayachts and the helicopters and the toys were usually way over the top.

I’m not at the show this week – the pandemic and all – so I haven’t seen the latest, a 33-foot-long amphibious limousine tender that fits in the garage of a megayacht (a large megayacht). The new tender, the Nouvoyage 33, answers the problem of how to get from your jet to your yacht, or from your yacht to the newest waterfront restaurant just outside town.

Developed for megayacht owners, the Nouvoyage 33 can go 28 knots on the water and 85 mph on land. The hull is by the versatile Sarasota yacht designer Michael Peters, who also designed the Summit 54 and the Hinckley 35 outboard displayed at the Newport show last week. The amphib is fully certified as an open water tender, and it can carry 12  people plus two crew.

Power comes from a single 530-hp Yanmar marine diesel and four Remy electric motors. The diesel generates electricity to power the electric motors on the wheels and the waterjets.

The company says the Nouvoyage is fuel efficient, although it seems to me that anyone who spends the base price of $2 million for a tender isn’t particularly worried about the cost of fuel. It has a climate-controlled luxury interior with an opening sunroof and an optional head and galley. Draft is just 2’ 3” so you don’t have to worry about skinny water in the Bahamas or the Chesapeake. And the gullwing side door opens wide enough to provide wheelchair access. Read more:
