Azimut Launches New Verve 42 in the U.S.

The very Italian-looking Azimut Verve 42, with a very slippery hull by the ubiquitous American designer Michael Peters, is making its debut in the United States. With three 450-hp Mercury outboards, the Verve 42 has a top speed of 45 knots and a cruising speed of 33 knots.

The Verve 42 comes after wide acceptance of the Verve 47, launched just last year. The 42 has the same highly raked windshield and black T-Top over the helm, giving it a sporty, aerodynamic look. And it has the same folding-out bulwark aft, providing immediate access to the water, even with the three big outboards hanging off the transom.

With one cabin, a convertible dinette and one head with a separate shower, the Verve 42 is designed as a day boat or weekender. It has separate social areas at both ends of the boat, so that it can hold out the promise of a fun time on the water for a family or group of friends.

For the captain, the Verve 42 offers some adrenaline rushes associated with the Merc outboards and Peters’ hull. The boat has a deep-V hull with a central stern tunnel, based on Peters’ patented ventilated tunnel design. It basically is a deep-V with two steps and a tunnel that are designed to reduce water resistance, while improving the boat’s longitudinal stability, particularly in high-speed turns. (Based in Sarasota, Florida, Peters has designed everything from megayachts and race boats to the new Hinckley 35, Summit 54, and Jeanneau Leader 36.)

The Verve 42 has three seats facing the helm, protected by the T-Top. Side windows extend down to the bulwark, giving the driver an immediate view of the wake flowing by,  particularly at high speed.

Aft, the beach platform folds out of the cockpit bulwark on the port side; it has a retractable swim ladder. On the starboard side, a large U-shaped lounge, with a facing table, can hold half a dozen guests, or more, for lounging or enjoying an al fresco meal or drink.

Walking all the way forward, on the port side, you’ll find another lounging area on the foredeck, also with U-shaped seating around a teak table. Below, the owner’s cabin sleeping two is amidships, just aft of a dinette on the port side that can be converted to another sleeping area. The head, with separate shower, is to starboard, and a large lounging area is forward.
