Brunswick, the recreational boating giant, will be showcasing its move into Artificial Intelligence, autonomous driving and electric power at the Consumer Electronics Show that starts Jan. 5 in Las Vegas.

The company says that “its futuristic exhibit will put you behind the helm in a new way with proprietary innovations that promise to change the future of marine technology forever.” David Foulkes, the Brunswick CEO, said the exhibit will include simulation showing how a boat owner might experience a voyage with the help of a suite of autonomous systems.

The exhibit will have an immersive 200-degree simulator where you can take a trip while it will show how to avoid objects and help with docking through augmented reality. Brunswick has partnered with Carnegie Robotics to develop driver assistance and autonomous solutions “to improve the boating experience across a range of applications and scenarios,” according to a Brunswick statement. Brunswick and Carnegie Robotics have already created Advanced Driver Assistance Systems to make boating easier and safer.

On the electric power front, Brunswick said it will offer five electric propulsion products, launch electric-powered boats in four different market segments, and replace 15,000 generators with advanced battery systems by 2023.

It also has formed a partnership with the E1 racing series and has developed an electric race boat called RaceBird, with an electric powertrain from Mercury Racing and display and nav systems from Simrad and C-MAP, which Brunswick owns.

Brunswick also said it is expanding the shared-access Freedom Boat Clubs around the world, “providing boaters with a different way to access the water without having to own a boat.” Brunswick bought the Freedom Boat Club in 2019.

With headquarters in Mettawa, Illinois, Brunswick owns a variety of recreational boating brands, including Sea Ray, Bayliner, Boston Whaler, Crestliner, Lund, Mercury Marine, MerCruiser, Simrad, Lowrance and Mastervolt. Read more:
